Info
The two Berliners Jonas Poppe and Sebastian Dasse have expanded their lineup with drummer Joe Dilworth (ex Stereolab and Ad N to X) and produced their 3rd album "Rubber and Meat" , along with international Big Shot producer Pelle Gunnerfeldt. With Gunnerfeldt who has worked with the Hives, Moneybrother and others, they did the deed in Stockholm.
The album transports us to a seedy club in the future, a dark Rock 'n Roll party steeped in edgy eroticism, riotous behavior and danger. The heroes on the stage (the recording) observe a tense, explosive mob peppered with hot young women and weird guys, wearing futuristic glases. That observations are in the form of stories and the songs that make up "Rubber and Meat ". Each one is an open ended drama of cynical wit, elegant wickedness, and self mockery.
The records language is one of Rock and Roll but also it remains above style bringing together Rock'n'Roll, Disco, Velvet Underground, Elektro, Poetry, Schmutz, Drama andBlues. We are talking about Rubber & Meat also as an orgy of a record: Orgy of Hammond Organ and Synthesizers, chopping/hacking, hyperactive beats and distorted guitar.
So goes Kissogram first off the mark with the Furture of Rock and the Future of Dance music all in one. In opposition to to their contemporaries, Digitalism, Justice or Hot Chip, here is not only the dancefloor rocked or popped but as great and quirky Rock artistry, filled with poetry. So sharp is Poppe's wit that it brings to mind Bob Dylan yet he is a Dylan that speaks over heavy beats.
"wartime, baby, i'm leaving you now. It's like new year's eve, but better somehow.
i'll carry your picture near my ha-heart - ah come on, boys, we're gonna ratatata.
(The Deserter)"
"he wore a golden watch which said quarter to twelve, he said i need some dust on my Dior Gucci Chanel
